The Lane Kirkland Scholarship Program supports the individual development of young, ambitious and active citizens of Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia for 24 years. The author and founder of the Program is the Polish-American organization “Freedom”
Foundation. The program is also funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange. (NAVA).
The program offers two semesters of study in one of four Polish academic centers (Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw,Lublin) and at least two weeks of professional internship in public, private or non-governmental organizations.
The program also offers an extensive program of training and workshops.
The program is addressed to young leaders and experts who have higher education and are interested in the development of democracy, economics and civil society in their countries and in the region.

- Fields related to the reconstruction of areas destroyed by the war, e.g., urban planning, civil engineering, forensic science, etc.
In addition, the Program administrator provides the following (worth approx. 5000 PLN/month):
- accommodation during the whole stay in Poland
- health insurance for medical outpatient care, treatment costs in case of emergency, and civil liability insurance
- one return ticket to Poland (up to an agreed limit)
- public transport cards
- visa costs
- research materials
- participation in an introductory course, and in grantees’ conventions,
- Polish language course (October–June).
Training will begin in the 2024/2025 academic year (September). Applicants for these grants are selected based on a 3-stage selection process:
- Review of applications for eligibility criteria
- Review of applications by experts in the areas covered
- Interview (scheduled for April 5–24, 2024)
- Applicants must submit documents online to the foreign party by March 1 of the current year.
