The Scope and Objective of the Symposium
- Determining the history of the Seljuks and the geography where this history flourished,
- The geographical boundaries extending from Central Asia to the Mediterranean and the process of establishing dominance over this geography,
- Examining the founding adventure of the Seljuks in the Turkistan region,
- Chronologically identifying the presence of the Seljuks in the Turkistan region starting from this period of history and highlighting the aspects inherited to the present day,
- Examining the tangible cultural assets from the Seljuk period that have survived to the present,
- The scope of the symposium is to thoroughly address the Seljuk struggle for dominance in this region, which has an important place in Seljuk history and is described as the founding geography of the Great Seljuks in Islamic historical sources.
Symposium Themes
The main title of the symposium has been determined as “III. International Symposium on Historical Geography of Seljuk– Turkistan.” The subtopics of the symposium are composed of the following themes:
- The Geographical Situation of the Region during the Seljuk Period
- The Historical Course of the Region during the Seljuk Period
- Political Movements in the Region during the Seljuk Period
- Social Life in the Region during the Seljuk Period
- The Economic Situation of the Region during the Seljuk Period
- The Development of Science and Thought in the Region during the Seljuk Period
- Religious Life in the Region during the Seljuk Period
- Cultural and Artistic Works in the Region during the Seljuk Period
