"Innovative Solutions for Climate Adaptation"

France announces new MOPGA research residency grants to enhance the scientific contribution of young researchers in combating climate change.

The eighth call for the Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA) program is funded by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE), implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR), and organized by Campus France. The program allows for the acceptance of at least 60 researchers who wish to conduct research in France.

The MOPGA 2025 scholarship program finances researchers working on specified topics.

Who can apply?

Only foreign researchers whose doctoral degrees were obtained less than five years ago can apply for this project. Applications are open to all nationalities, except French citizens.

Starting from September 2025, the grant will be awarded to young researchers for a period of 12 months.

This scholarship offers the following benefits:

  • Monthly payment: €2,500
  • Living allowance: €500
  • Coverage of health insurance, liability insurance, and evacuation assistance.
  • Additional health coverage will be provided after connection to the security system, which includes liability insurance and evacuation assistance.

An agreement for the duration of the research stay will be established between the candidate and the research host, detailing the resources provided by the laboratory for the successful execution of the research project in France.

  • CV and list of publications (maximum 4 pages)
  • Doctoral diploma (or certificate regarding the diploma)
  • CV of the research supervisor in France (maximum 2 pages)
  • Letter of agreement from the laboratory providing necessary tools for the successful execution of the project in France
  • Recommendation letters (maximum 3)
  • Copy of passport or national identity document

Application Timeline:

  • September 5, 2024: Applications open
  • December 5, 2024: Application deadline
  • May 2025: Notification of results
  • September - December 2025: Arrival of candidates in France and commencement of research at French educational institutions.

RESEARCH TOPICS

Applications can be submitted in five educational fields:

  1. Earth system sciences
  2. Climate change and sustainability sciences
  3. Energy transition processes
  4. Societal impacts of environmental issues
  5. The health of humans, animals, and the environment within a “One Health” approach.

Requirements:

Researchers must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a doctoral degree obtained less than five years ago, i.e., defended their dissertation between December 2019 and December 2024.
  • Hold only foreign citizenship.
  • Candidates must not have lived in France for more than 90 days between September 5, 2024, and December 5, 2024.
