Associate Professor Shahnoza Valiyeva of the Department of Geography and Natural Resources at Samarkand State University conducted an open lesson on the topic "Toponymy of Samarkand Region" for the students of group 302 in the Faculty of Geography and Ecology.

    During the lecture, information was provided about the oronyms, hydronyms, and oikonyms of Samarkand Region. An etymological analysis was conducted and classifications were made. The meaning of the name "Samarkand" in ancient Sanskrit, Arabic, and Persian languages was discussed.

    The lecture also addressed stories, legends, and myths related to the historical place names in the region. Modern pedagogical technologies were employed during the lesson. Methods such as pairing activities, anagrams, geographic dictation, and brainstorming were utilized to reinforce the topic. The class was rich in discussion and engaging.
