Researchers of Samarkand State University Sulton Suyarov, Omon Mirzamurodov, Khairullo Solijonov, Khurshid Izzatullaev, Farrukh Umarov and Aliyor Rakhmonov conduct research in water basins of Uzbekistan.

 This expedition is conducted within the framework of the practical project “Leeches of Uzbekistan (Hirudinea): species composition, bioecological characteristics, distribution in types of water bodies, study of their importance in the economy and development of measures to protect rare species” under the guidance of SamSU professor Zuvayd Izatullaev.

 Scientists conduct research in Navoi, Bukhara, Khorezm, Karakalpakstan, Tashkent, Jizzak, Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions.

 During expeditions leech samples are collected and biotope characteristics are studied. GIS-maps of leech distribution are also being developed.
