The Department of Algebra and Number Theory was established in 1962 and was headed by Associate Professors R. Iskandarov, M. S. Sobirov, A. A. Amonov, G. Ergashev. At the Department of Algebra and Number Theory worked scientists who served in different years in Uzbekistan, Professor Romanov N.T., Associate Professor Baskov B.M., Associate Professor Ibragimov M.I., Associate Professor Shakhova L.V., Zykov A , prof. B. F. Skubenko, prof. Kh. N. Narzullaev, K. B. Bakiyev, senior lecturers Yu. Sharipov, A. S. Pen, associate professor Akramov U.A., associate professor Juraev Yu., associate professor F. Sharipov.

The Department of Geometry was founded in 1972, it was headed by prof. E.A. Khatipov (until 1986), prof. Artikov A.R., Temirov T.V. Associate professor Amirov M.A., associate professor Shodiev Kh.M., senior lecturers Sharipova R.S., Pashaev Z.A., Nasimov Kh.A., Rakhmatullaeva N., candidates of physical and mathematical sciences Rakhmatov S. , Khudoynazarov N.
In 1994, these departments were merged and named the Department of Algebra and Geometry, and until 1996 it was headed by prof. A.R. Ortykov, from 1996 to 2010. - prof. A.S. Soleev, from 2010 to 2015 Assoc. H.H. Ruzimuradov. From January 2015 to 2019, the department was headed by Associate Professor Khasanov G.A. Since 2019, the department was headed by Associate Professor H.Kh. Ruzimuradov, and since 2021 E.Yu. Jabbors.

The scientific potential of the department is associated with the activities of the following scientific schools.
Nikolai Pavlovich Romanov was invited from Tomsk State University in 1944, he attracted young scientists around him and conducted research in the following areas of mathematics: analytic and additive theory of numbers, theory of operator zeta functions, theory of numbers and Hilbert space, theory of discrete variables, complex functions . 11 candidates of sciences were trained in these areas. In particular, among them are associate professors M.S. Sobirov, H.A. Abdullaev, Kh.N. Narzullaev, I.Ya. Casara, G.F. Korsakov, M.A. Subkhankulov, N.Kh. Teshaboev.

A great contribution to the training of teachers in the field of geometry of Samarkand University was made by Professor Ahmed Emir-Asan Khatipov, who was invited to Samarkand in 1944. Professor A.E. Khatipov, along with writing textbooks on various sections of geometry, effectively worked on the history of medieval mathematics in Central Asia. His scientific works on this topic played an important role in familiarizing the general public with the mathematical work of medieval oriental scientists.

A scientist from St. Petersburg B. F. Skubenko also made a great contribution to the scientific activity of the department. B. F. Skubenko conducted research on the geometric theory of numbers with his students and created a unique scientific school on the geometry of numbers in Samarkand. Scientific research in this direction was led by Professor Kh. N. Narzullaev. On the initiative of the founders of this scientific school, in 1972 an international conference on number theory was held at SamSU. Continuing scientific research in this direction, members of the department Istamov A., Akhmedov N., Mukhsinov Kh., Akramov U.A., Khurramov A., Rozimuradov Kh. defended their dissertations. Kh. N. Narzullaev defended his doctoral dissertation in 1993.
Professor A. Soleev conducts research work with a group of young scientists in the field of geometric geometry of the scientific school of Professor A. D. Bruno from Moscow. In this direction, the Samarkand Scientific School was established, and on the initiative of its founders, three international conferences were held in Samarkand (ICSTM-1996, CASC-2000, SMR2150-2009). prof. Ikromov I., associate professors Yu.Kh. On the basis of this scientific school, a scientific project was implemented on the topic “Development of methods of graded geometry and computer algebra in the study of nonlinear problems of algebra and analysis”, funded by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. works at the department.
