Prof. Surena Zanjani is a distinguished scholar in English Language and Literature, with a robust academic career spanning 24 years. He completed his Post-Doctorate at Atlantic International University, where he authored the dissertation “The Unheard Voices in English Literature: A Feminist Scrutiny of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale and Oscar Wilde's SALOMÉ”. His Doctorate, awarded by Istanbul Aydın University, focused on the significant themes in poetry, culminating in the dissertation “Poetry Yields Knowledge: A Critical Reading of Percy Bysshe Shelley.”
Prof. Zanjani also holds a Master’s degree in English Linguistics from Tehran P.N University and has further enhanced his expertise with international certifications, including IELTS, TOEFL, and TESOL from Arizona State University.
In addition to his teaching role as the head of his department, Prof. Zanjani is a prolific author, having written over 22 articles and 4 books that contribute to the fields of English Literature and Linguistics. His dedication to academia and passion for literature continue to inspire students and peers a like.

Atayeva Gulbahor Mirsafayevna Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor. She has been working at the English Department of SamSU since 1980. In 1990 she successfully defended her PhD thesis on the topic "Inter-domain units in phraseology". Gulbahor Ataeva is the author of 10 textbooks and over 50 articles. She has published 1 article in the Scopus and Web of Science databases. |

Nodira Azzamovna Isakova Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philology, Associate Professor. Since 2005, she has been working in various positions at the Department of English Language, Linguistics, and Literature of Samarkand State University. In 2021, she defended her PhD dissertation on the topic “Structural-semantic analysis of foreign words that have entered the Uzbek language during the years of independence (‘Khalq Sozi’ newspaper materials)” in the field of philology. During her career, she has authored 1 monograph, 1 textbook, 10 methodological guides, and 2 textbooks. Ruzieva Sitora Asrorovna
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in philological sciences, associate professor. Since 2014 she has been working as a senior lecturer and associate professor at the Department of English at Samarkand State University. In 2020 she defended her PhD thesis on philological sciences on the topic “ KONSEPT « КОНЦЕПТ «СЕМЬЯ» И ЕГО ОТРАЖЕНИЕ В АНГЛИЙСКОЙ И УЗБЕКСКОЙ ЯЗЫКОВЫХ КУЛЬТУРАХ”. She is the author of 1 textbook and 6 textbooks as well as more than 40 scientific articles. To date, the scientist has published 1 article in Scopus, Web of Science and other prestigious international journals. |

Urazkulova Aziza Ankaevna Senior Lecturer in the Department of English. Since 1998 she has been working in different positions at the Department of English at Samarkand State University. Aziza Urazkulova is the author of 3 teaching aids during her career. She has also published scientific articles in 2 prestigious international journals and more than 30 other publications. |

Rofeyeva Shokhida Davronovna She has been working as a senior lecturer at the Department of English Language, Linguistics, and Literature of Samarkand State University since 2019. Tokhirova Sarvinoz Khusenovna Tokhirova Sarvinoz has been working at the Department of English Language, Linguistics, and Literature of Samarkand State University since 2018. In 2024, she became a PhD candidate in Philology with the dissertation topic “The Influence and Translation of Sadriddin Ayni’s Works on European Literature.” During her career, Sarvinoz Tokhirova has published 1 textbook, 20 scientific articles, and articles in 3 journals included in the Web of Science database. |
Kadirova Feruza Rustamovna Kadirova Firuza has been working as a senior lecturer at the Department of English Language, Linguistics, and Literature of Samarkand State University since 2019. As an independent researcher, she is conducting scientific research on the topic "Teaching English Reading Skills to the Students of Higher Education." During her career, Firuza Kadirova has published around 15 scientific articles in international and OAK-indexed journals. |

In 2024, she defended her doctoral dissertation in philological sciences on the topic "Linguistic and Cognitive Features of the Secondary Language Identity Formation in Bilingual Students." She has undergone advanced training in Spain, Romania, and the United Kingdom. She is the author of 1 textbook, 1 monograph, 2 educational guides, and 4 methodological manuals. About the Department of English at Samarkand State University The Department of English at Samarkand State University was established under the name of Department of Foreign Languages in 1962 at the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Samarkand State University. This department is interdepartmental and mainly teaches students English. At first, the department was headed by professor L. Kletnova, senior lecturer R. Mamatov, associate professor B. Tursunov, then professor A. Bushuy, professor S. Safarov, associate professor A. Nurmukhamedov, associate professor M. Begmatov, associate professor G. Ataeva, associate professor T. Ismailov, and currently the department is headed by professor R. Gargesh. During its activity, the English Department has prepared such famous professors as M. Nusharov, A. Bushuy, and B. Tursunov, famous specialists such as A. Nurmukhamedov, and Pashaly Usman. At the department, Associate Professor L. Arustamyan, Associate Professor A. Yuzlikayeva, Associate Professor D. Fahrutdinova, senior teachers: H. Mirmukhammedova, D. Mamajonova, K. Hodjaeva, M. Kushshayeva and K. Mamadaliyeva conducted classes with students in English language. Currently, the department has Ravinder Gargesh as professor, G. Ataeva, N. Isakova, Sh. Khushmurodova, S. Ruzieva as associate professor, N. Kholmurodova, B. Azizova, O. Umarova, S. Usmanov, K. Makhkamova, F. Negova, S. Sodikova, D. Sobirova, A. Urazkulova as a senior lecturer, M. Akabirova, N. Kuchimova, S. Tokhirova, Sh. Rofeeva, F. Kodirova, A. Burkhanova, D. Rasulova, I. Rasulova, S. Khasanova work as a lecturer.

Nozomi Kusaka from Japan is a faculty member in the department and teaches students. Teachers of the department regularly participate in international scientific conferences with their articles. The scientific potential of the department is 26%. The Department of English carries out research work on the general scientific topic "Issues of Modern Linguistics and the Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages". Over the last three years 3 monographs and over 20 manuals have been published by the department. Over 100 scientific articles of the department members have been published in international conferences, 50 in foreign scientific journals. Young chair assistants are working at candidate dissertations. |
