Department of Optics and Spectroscopy

The Department of Optics was created in 1935 and to this day, making a great contribution to the development of science in the republic, it has trained many highly qualified specialists. Prof. made a great contribution to the creation of the department. A. Titov, prof. M. Vooks, prof. M. Chulonovsky, prof. M. Mominov, prof. A. Tekuchev, prof. S. Umarov, prof. M. Saidov and academician A. Otakhozhaev.

The prestige of the Samarkand “School of Opticians”, created by academician A. Otakhodzhaev, is recognized not only in Uzbekistan, but also in foreign countries. Today, the students of Academician A. Otakhodzhaev successfully continue the activities of this scientific school, and the results of scientific research are published in international and national scientific journals, such as “Raman spectroscopy”, “Molecular Liquids”, “Optics and Spectroscopy”. Summarizing also research works, in 1981 the monograph “Spectral intensity distribution in the wing of the scattering line of liquids and solutions”, in 2009 the monograph “Dynamics of molecules in liquids”, in 2014 the monograph “Structure of molecular aggregates in liquids and their manifestations in Raman spectra" was published by the FAN publishing house. In addition, in 2019, employees of the department, in collaboration with scientists from the National University of Tajikistan, published the textbook “Optics” in the Tajik language, and in 2021 the textbook “Mechanics” was published. Also in 2021, 1 educational and 4 teaching aids were published.

In 1996, 2001, 2006, 2013, international conferences dedicated to “Current problems of molecular spectroscopy” were held at the Samarkand School of Optics. Leading industry scientists from the USA, Germany, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and other countries took part in the conferences.

Currently, the department is headed by G. Sharifov, Doctor of Philosophy in Physical and Mathematical Sciences. Today, the department for the organization of scientific, methodological and educational work includes professors - N. Nizomov, A. Dzhumabaev, Kh. Khushvaktov, E. Kurtaliev, associate professors - U.
