About the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Technologies The Department of Soil Science was created in 1953 on the basis of the Faculty of Biology and Soil Science of Samarkand State University. Professors D. Kuguchkov, Kh. Khamdamov, associate professors S. Agisheva, G. Danov, S. Kigai and others worked at the department, conducting research to solve a number of pressing issues in soil science. Scientists who made a significant contribution to the development of soil science in Uzbekistan: O. Komilov, I. Bobokhujaev, U. Matkarimov. In 1996, the Department of Soil Science at Samarkand State University was reorganized into the Faculty of Soil Science and Ecology. After this, the Department of Soil Science was reorganized, and it was headed by Associate Professor U. Matkarimov, and later by Associate Professors T. Ortikov and Sh. Kholikulov. Since 2000, in order to expand the faculties, the Faculty of Soil Science and Ecology was merged with the Faculty of Biology, and the Department of Soil Science continued its activities as a department preparing a separate specialty.
