"Don't start writing until you've read..."

The guest of the project "Heart and Pen" Dostbek Sulaimanov, a well-known writer, a member of the Union of Writers of Uzbekistan, a graduate of Samarkand State University.
Why did you choose prose?
- Prose has always been the basis of literature. But we cannot boast of today's prose. I don't know if prose gets less attention than poetry, or if there are other reasons. The path of prose is difficult, and not everyone can continue it all the time. My father wanted me to become a poet because he was a literature teacher. When I was young, he memorized hundreds of poems. Surprisingly, I had a very strong memory, and I could memorize long verses in one breath. I read poetry and ghazals for three or four hours, and everyone was surprised. There were attempts to write poetry, these exercises could not even be called "poetry", as one of our senior teachers said. I found the prose magical and fascinating. The world of novels, short stories, stories fascinated me more and more, as if I lived inside books. When I was a student, I wrote articles and posts. Gradually, prose began to attract me, I wrote something. This has been announced in several places. I wrote a little. I tried to study more.
- In 2020, the stories "Striving for the heights ...", in 2021 "Where is Salam?" Your comic book collections are over. How is the process of publishing a book, and is experience important for the author?
- I have been creating since 2003. Over the years, my peers and creative people have repeatedly stressed that the time has come to publish a book. As soon as the opportunity arose, it was published on time.
Why is the author publishing a book? Firstly, to see his disparate creative works as a whole, and secondly, to achieve reader attention and recognition. If someone reads what I write and gives their opinion, I will be glad and will continue to move forward. My first book is short stories. It consists of creative works written since 2003. My second book consists of comics, and it was born on the path of finding a cure, a solution, and a response to the ills of society.
Jordanian writer Ayman Yogii said, “Don't start writing until you've read enough. In fact, if the writer does not know perfectly what he writes, the reader cannot accept it as the truth. My literal source of water was the knowledge I received at school and then at university. In this regard, I am always grateful to Samarkand State University. I studied here for six years. The best moments of my youth are gone. I fell in love with literature thanks to the passionate and dedicated teachers of the university. The lessons and advice given by my teachers still influence my life today. I always adore this place.
- Do you think writing is a talent or destiny?
- Writing is fate. If you do not believe in fate, remember the lives of brilliant writers - Hemingway, Mark Twain, Tagore, Tolstoy, Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Aitmatov, our relatives Abdulla Kadiri, Oybek, Abdulla Kahkhor, Odil Yakubov, Shukur Kholmirzaev. Didn't each of them stake their lives on this literature?! Is this not literature? If it were not for luck, Tolstoy, who would have been an earl and extremely rich, even Hemingway, who did not want to receive the Nobel Prize, which today has a prize of more than one million dollars, and Chingiz Aitmatov, the most prestigious writer in the world, would not have given up writing and Would you choose another profession?
- In 2020, you created the Nasr.uz website and the Telegram channel (@Nasr_uz). It tells a series of stories of many young talents. As a creator who constantly observes them, how do you evaluate the work of contemporary young writers? Which of them do you see in future prose?
- Given that small streams lead to large streams, and tributaries to rivers, it would be appropriate if each of us continued to contribute to literature, even a small one. We do our best to support young talents. Among today's young writers, there are many who take bold steps in their work. In this regard, we are glad that there are people who create at the level of tomorrow's expectations.
- There is an opinion that "each work lives its own life." How do you imagine the role and significance of your works in the future?
- The writer cannot give any opinion about the life of the work. There are times when a work that you did not expect at all becomes popular, or a work that you have given too much love and cherished in your heart may not be liked by others. The business of a writer is not to worry about the fate of his work, but to write with hope. Sometimes, when talking to writers, they say with regret that they are writing books for a generation that does not read. But I think it's temporary. Our people have always been enlightened and will definitely return to the book.
-Does the new work created today need to be in advertising?
«Реклама немного не то, но правильнее сказать раскрутка нового произведения». Я считаю, что пропаганда необходима. В развитых странах есть специальные литературные агенты, занимающиеся продвижением произведений. Они регулярно продвигают новые произведения писателя. В результате произведение достигает многих тысяч читателей. Из уст в уста также важно. Если учителя, студенты, и другие сотрудники регулярно говорят о положительных сторонах прочитанной книги, это, безусловно, повлияет на окружающих.
What are you afraid of in life?
- Indifference.
- What genres of prose do you intend to use in the future?
- At the moment we write more or less in small genres of prose. Of course, when the time comes, I intend to try the short story genre, and later the novel.
