How important is it to study shellfish? What do they give us?

Associate Professor of the Department of Zoology of Samarkand State University Jasur Kudratov conducts scientific research on his doctoral dissertation (DSc) on the topic "Corinoid mollusks of the Western Pamir-Alay mountain system". Scientific consultants - Professor of Samarkand State University, Doctor of Biological Sciences Zubaydulla Izzatullayev.
- As you know, mollusks are one of the very convenient objects for solving many general biological problems and determining the historical formation of the territory, - says Jasur Kudratov. - On the one hand, they serve as food for underwater benthic organisms and, in particular, fish, waterfowl and waterfowl, mammals, and on the other hand, as bioindicators of water and soil, and also participate in determining their sanitary condition. Hard shells of mollusks are well preserved in the ancient layers of the earth, serving as indicator organisms in paleoclimatology and stratigraphy. Their economic importance is also incredibly great. Dozens of species of mollusks: domestic and hunting animals, fish and birds are intermediate hosts for helminths, which cause severe helminthic diseases even for humans. From this point of view, the study of the species composition, bioecological features, variability, distribution, zoogeography, origin and economic importance of the South African molluscs of Uzbekistan in various aquatic and terrestrial biocenoses is of scientific and practical importance. In our studies, the taxonomic, ecological and biological aspects of gastropod molluscs of the Western Pamir-Alay mountain system were studied in detail, the biology and life cycle of widespread species were described. New species have been identified for several regions of Uzbekistan and Central Asia. It is also recommended to add 5 species to the "Red Book" of Uzbekistan.
As a result of the research conducted to date, the researcher has published more than 10 scientific articles, including 2 articles in prestigious foreign journals based on Scopus, more than 15 abstracts in the materials of international and republican conferences. Jasur Kudratov is the author of 1 monograph, created on the basis of the results of low-calcological studies.
