Senior teachers of the English Language Department of Samarkand State University Shahnoza Khushmurodova and Komila Mahkamovas reported earlier that they were in a one-month internship at Warwick University in Great Britain. We were interested in the impressions of the visit of the teachers who returned from training at this university.
-We returned to participate in the teacher development program announced by the Department of Applied linguistics of Warwick University of Great Britain, - says Shahnoza Khushmurodova, - a total of 12 Uzbek candidates were selected for this course. The PDELT (Professional development for English language teachers) course is aimed at improving the qualifications of English Language teachers, directly sharing experiences with professors and teachers of the University of Warwick. The main goal is to improve the knowledge and qualifications of teachers with the help of international experiments and methods. For the first time this year, Uzbek representatives took part in this course. We were taught even by Professor Mark Bartram of Oxford University.
We were very pleased with the method of “Co-working” (working in cooperation), which was taught during the advanced training course. According to this method, one lesson is taken by two teachers. When we take a math lesson, for example, it is passed together by both a math teacher and an English teacher. In our conditions, a mathematics teacher does not know English, and students need to learn mathematics in English. The co-working method is incredibly handy in this case. The method allows students to simultaneously gain knowledge of both mathematics and language. At the end of the lesson, each teacher gives an assessment to the students individually. Then the two grades placed are summarized and the final grade is released. If we also introduce this method into our educational system, we think it will have a good effect.
- During the program, the information we received on how to give motivation to language learners, increase their interest in the language, work with new literature, useful sites in the process of teaching English was extremely useful, - says Komila Hakamova, - at the same time we got acquainted with a number of new techniques for the formation of creative-critical thinking skills in students and We have caught our eye on a number of aspects that can be exemplified in the educational and administrative system of the University of Warwick. For example, it turns out that in the system of remuneration for the labor of teachers there is also a preposition. That is, before the teacher enters the lesson, elementary controls are taken to check the cognitive performance of students, and the results are calculated in percentages. This indicator is compared with the results after the lessons were passed, and the quality of the teacher's education is assessed. For example, one teacher passed a lesson to students with an initial level of 30 percent and released their level of language proficiency by 50 percent, while another one took a lesson from an elementary level of 0 and released it by 30 percent. It is not correct to evaluate the final result in the process. In the percentage score, the first result is high, but in it the knowledge of students increased by 20%. In the latter case, the final result is low, but the result achieved by the teacher is 30 percent. In the process, no doubt, the second teacher should be well paid. Because he worked harder than others, achieved a good result. The procedure for paying professors and teachers in this way in Language Teaching is effective not only by making a number of requirements for both the student and the teacher.
At the end of the program, we demonstrated to the course participants and professors of Warwick University about Samarkand State University. Project organizer Jonathan French said he would come to Samsu in October. We are pleased to be able to arouse interest in Samarkand State University in representatives of Foreign science through the demonstration.
Now we want to organize a seminar with the aim of teaching other English Language teachers of Samarkand State University the information and techniques we have learned through this foreign qualification.
