The best way to spend your free time on vacation is to read books. But which book to choose to read, makes many doubt. We asked young reader Markhabo Makhkamtasheva to get answers to some questions about book selection skills, how to read books quickly and how to choose the right book. Markhabo Makhkamtosheva, a student of the Faculty of Philology of Samarkand State University, this year became the absolute winner in the region in the age category of 15-19 years of the Young Reader competition and received a ticket to the republican stage.

- What do you pay attention to when choosing a book to read?

- It won't be wrong to say that choosing books is a special skill. In this regard, human interests are important. Before buying a book, it is advisable to read the summary of this work. Because everyone has different tastes. Someone is fond of dystopias, someone is detective works. Usually I choose a book based on my interests, as well as the author and the review of the work.

- How to read books quickly?

- Based on personal experience, I will say that in order to read some work faster, first of all, you need to “understand” it. I usually try to read as many books as possible in one sitting. In order to read books quickly, as much as possible, reading time should not be distracted by other things. You should read books when no one bothers you. This helps improve reading efficiency and ensure a smooth process.

Don't put a book that needs to be read but didn't have time to read on the shelf, out of sight. May this book always be with you, wherever your eyes fall. Then you will quickly finish the book.

- Books that you know that everyone at your age should read and that you recommend reading during the holidays...

1. Ray Bradbury Fahrenheit 451

2. Ahmad Azam "Dream or Journey to Gulistan"

3. Mikhail Bulgakov "The Master and Margarita"

4. Javlon Jovliev "Do not be afraid"

5. Dostoevsky "Crime and Punishment"

6. Albert Camus "The Stranger"

7. Kafka "Process"

8. Murod Muhammad Dust "Lolazor"

- Which of the characters in the work did you want to be like or be yourself?

- On Raskolnikov in the novel "Crime and Punishment".

How many pages do you read per day on average? Do you know how many books you have already read?

- I read an average of 100-150 pages a day. I can finish a book of about 300 pages in one sitting if no one distracts me. I didn't write down the exact number of books I read, probably around 600. But I used to write down the title, author, characters, and summary of each book I read. This habit later helped me win many competitions.

- What successes in your personal life have you achieved in 2022?

- 2022 brought huge changes in my life. It would not be an exaggeration to say that it was a year full of defeats and victories. It was full of fierce and intense disputes, competitions and joyful moments. I reached the final stage of the League of Readers and took 3rd place. Took 1st place in the regional stage of the republican competition "Young Reader". The national stage of the competition will be held on January 10-20, 2023. At the moment I am busy preparing for the competition. I feel that the trust of all my relatives, parents, teachers, my native university and the entire Samarkand region lies on my shoulders. I am constantly working to justify this trust and return with a decent face.
