Toshpulot Rajabov, the Director of the Institute of Agrobiotechnology and Food Safety at Samarkand State University and an Associate Professor, is currently visiting the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Urumqi, China.

   During the visit, issues related to the development of new varieties of cotton and wheat resistant to extreme climatic conditions were discussed in collaboration with scientists from the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences. To this end, the activities of several laboratories, experimental greenhouses, and research centers specializing in cotton and wheat research at the academy were closely reviewed. Special attention was given to the processes of creating new varieties of cotton and wheat based on genetic engineering and to the research on the growth and development characteristics of these newly developed varieties.

     As a scientific platform for establishing this collaboration, it was agreed to set up the China-Uzbekistan Selection and Breeding Center at Samarkand State University in cooperation with scientists from the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

    The key stages of establishing the center, funding sources, and main areas of activity were discussed.

     During the meetings, discussions were held with Professor Mamat Tursunjan, Deputy Director of the Cotton Engineering Technology Scientific Center, and Zhang Yueqiang, Deputy Director of the Institute of Nuclear Technologies and Biotechnology, regarding cotton and wheat.

      Discussions are ongoing regarding other areas of collaboration and opportunities.
