What do you know about Japanese medlar? Where is found in Samarkand? What properties does it have?

“I tried to study the biological features and ways of reproduction of Japanese nutmeg grown in the greenhouse of SamSU,” says Mohigul Shukurova. – In connection with the appearance on the territory of our country of new varieties of plants, new technologies, specialists in the field of introduction are obliged to study the features and methods of effective reproduction of these plants. Today, botanists of Uzbekistan have such a high task as enrichment of plant species growing in our country, bringing them to use in food, medicinal and other industries. In this regard, an increase in the number of fresh and high-quality fruit plants imported from abroad is a requirement of today. Japanese medlar is one such plant. Currently, this plant is grown and propagated in the greenhouse of Samarkand State University.
Japanese medlar is considered a medicinal plant. It contains sugar, malic and citric acids, as well as pectin. Medlar fruits can be used to prepare juices, compotes, jams, syrups and wines. It contains a lot of essential oils, glycosides and other substances. A decoction of the leaves collected during the flowering of the Japanese medlar is used for sore throat. The leaves, bark and raw fruits of the plant contain an astringent that is used for skin burns. Its leaves contain many valuable substances - antioxidants, tannins and absorbents. In traditional Chinese medicine, loquat extracts are used to make syrups and various cough medicines. Medlar wood is used to make tools and brushes used in painting.
For reference, Mokhigul Shukurova, Master of the Faculty of Biology of Samarkand State University, is conducting a scientific study on the topic “Reproduction Prospects for the Japanese Musk Snake”.
